Day 2 of 2014 Blog-o-rama.

I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts to distract myself during all the treadmill training I’m doing during the week.  Ultrarunning and running podcasts only go so far, so I’ve listened to a lot of Ted Talks too, and random NPR podcasts.  I’ve even listened to IM Talk, an Ironman podcast.  The things a desperate ultrarunner will do after two hours on a garage treadmill.  I don’t do tris (too much biking and swimming), but I like the IM hosts’ New Zealand accents and their podcasts can be interesting.  Anyway, yesterday was a nice one with Bevan James Eyles from his Fitness Behavior podcasts.

I’ve always been fascinated why some people seem to have a lifetime love of fitness and find it easy to get out there and do it while others struggle so much. I’ve learnt that fitness is about behavior, that we need to learn the behaviors that create success in this important area. So that’s what this podcast is about. Teaching you how to learn to be more successful with your fitness behaviors.”

Here’s the link if you’re headed to a treadmill and need some distraction.

I’ve been getting up after Ruby’s middle of the night feeding and getting on the mill.  It’s nice not to feel guilty about taking time away from the family, but it does leave me pretty zombie-like after lunch.  Okay, gotta get a core workout in.  Bleh.

Try the Rich Roll podcast. Very long interviews that will eat up a couple hours. I’m guessing you do already do This Anerican Life? If not get the app…best $3 I ever spent to get me through boring runs.

Thanks Clea. I’ll check Rich Roll tonight. I’ve got 2 hours of milling ahead of me. And, yes, to This American Life. 🙂

I’ve only listened to a couple IMTalks but will have to check those out.

You might also like Zen and the Art of Triathlon podcast – Brett has been doing it for years (oldest tri podcast) has good guests, is also an ultrarunner himself, and his stream of consciousness training log segments are fun. It’s not all tri-specific. For example, he has plenty of eps on his Rocky Raccoon experiences.

I have a long list of podcasts I listen to. You might also like (if you don’t already listen to): MarathonTalk (UK), Runner Academy (good guests, couple eps on goal setting, mind training), Endurance Planet (the Ask the Coach/Ask the Ultra w/ Tim Waggoner (Lucho) and some of the eps w/ Tim Noakes or other interesting guests on nutrition, training, Phil Maffetone). For ultras, DFLUltrarunning is newer and kind of fun, 2 guys up in MA/NH from the TARC do it – they tend to be long eps. (I imagine you already listen to URP, TrailRunnerNation). You might even enjoy the AnotherMotherRunner podcasts – I like most of them. I’ve listened to a few Rich Roll eps, I choose by guest, same with Competitor Radio.

Excellent! Thank you so much for these recommendations. I have a 4 hour run on Saturday that I might be trapped on the mill for, so you might have saved my sanity. 🙂 I love Marathon Talk — mostly because of the interaction between Yelling and Williams. I listened to Endurance Planet with the original host, who I really liked. I’m still missing him, so it’s hard to listen to Tawnee Prazak. I agree there are some great guests though and I like the bits with Tim. Looking forward to checking out the others.
