I’m starting to think about MdS as a restful vacation with a bit running thrown in. I’m not underestimating the desert...
Two scorpions, two pilgrims and lots of coffee
LizaEliot and Asa made it to the end of their journey on the Camino! They’ll be home in three days. Apparently Asa slept for more than 12 hours yesterday.
Must be nice.
I’m only getting about five hours a night — but six total when you factor in Ruby’s nap. Six and a half when factor in falling asleep during bedtime stories. I’m not sure why. I just can’t fall asleep and Ruby is up at 5:08am every morning. I think I could definitely give Asa a run for his money in a sleeping competition if given the chance though. I’ll see your 12 hours and raise you three.
Anyhoo, a few days ago Ruby and I were in the bathroom and she pointed behind the trashcan and said “Bug!” I told her I’d get it as soon as I finished brushing my teeth. She persisted. “Bug! Big bug! Buggy!!” I sighed, expecting a cockroach. But, no. No cockroach. Just an two-inch scorpion. Lovely. I hit vigorously 97 times with my shoe and then flushed the remains down the toilet. No big deal. We live in South Texas. There are scorpions. Live and let live. (Kind of.) Anyway, I’d forgotten about the smashing by the next evening –which is when I found another one in the hallway. Two scorpions equal a scorpion invasion. I briefly considered packing up moving out of the house after I smashed the heck out of it. But then I got sucked into “Pioneer Quest.” Reality TV for nerdy types.
I’ve been running with the baby jogger most days. Ruby only tolerates six miles at a time and that’s only with some encouragement from Peppa Pig on youtube. I’m looking forward to a long run on Sunday when the boys get back.
Oh, and despite the fact that chlorine is the main component of my beauty regimen these days, Ruby’s girl skills are coming along quite nicely, thank you. (So good to see you Olga!!)
Amy
Oh dear me if I found two scorpions in my house I’d be majorly freaked out. But I’m in Miami. 3 weeks ago I did see a baby armadillo crossing the road when I was on my bike. It was pretty cute. I hear that they are smelly but I was too far away. That whole bedtime book reading thing is a major sleep pattern killer. My kids are both old enough to read on their own but when they were younger my pattern was more like crash with the kids for 45 minutes – stay up for 2 hours then go to bed. Disaster. But like everyone says I do miss those night time cuddles so it’s good to try and enjoy them while they are young. Imperfect advice but still good.
Liza
Amy, I loved your comment. Thanks for it. And imperfect advice is the best as far as I’m concerned. They’re doing construction in the lot behind our house, so if any baby armadillos show up, I’ll be sure to let you know.

I am so happy nobody stepped on the buggy!!! Yikes!
Liza
Me too!!

When we lived in apartment here, scorpions – and tarantulas – were frequent visitors! Now, alas, only huge cockroaches, which I think scary Larry not any less and he squeals for my defense.
It was totally awesome to see you both!
Liza
If scorpions didn’t sting, I’d definitely prefer them to huge cockroaches. I wouldn’t want to find a tarantula in my bed, but, otherwise, they don’t bother me.
