I’m starting to think about MdS as a restful vacation with a bit running thrown in. I’m not underestimating the desert...
Camo tights, black socks and beautiful tan lines
LizaI took this picture during the Leadville 100 when we were stopped for 45 minutes on the road out to Winfield. I was in the passenger seat and my belly prevented me really leaning out the driver’s side window to get a better shot. That young man is wearing camouflage running tights — with his bright yellow shoes. And his trucker’s cap is a fine Hawaiian print. All that would be merely interesting if he wasn’t standing next to the second fellow — whose tan lines, black socks, and long t-shirt are really marvelous. We couldn’t figure out if they were pacers or not. I mean, they’re about eight miles down the gravel road to Winfield — without a car, — so they’re either out for a pleasure run out to the ghost town (dressed like that), or they’re headed to the aid station (dressed like that). I really wish I could have heard what they were talking about.
My back is still pretty bad, and I haven’t been able to run — or walk much — for three days. I have no idea what is going on. I was fine before Saturday. Then my right glute got a bit tight running out at Bandera, and then I could barely walk. It didn’t feel like I pulled anything — and I certainly wasn’t ignoring any nagging pain before the run. And I was just waddle-jogging along for goodness sake! I have an appointment with the midwives this morning and I’m going to see if it’s okay if I see a chiropractor. I’ve only been to a chiropractor once before, but it feels like something must have popped out of place — and that’s chiropractor work, right? Stretching and sitting on top of lacrosse balls hasn’t helped. (But, let me tell you, an 8 1/2 month pregnant woman trying to roll one glute on top of a lacrosse ball is quite a site.)(May you never see it.)
Anyway, the lack of running and crossing off goals on the big poster board has left me feeling low. So it seemed like the perfect time to pull out the Winfield road picture. It’s a definite spirit lifter.

Good luck on finding the cause and getting better soon!

Thanks so much! Drugs today and chiropractor tomorrow.

The exact same thing happened to my back when I was 8 1/2 months pregnant. I couldn’t even go walking and it stayed that way until I delivered. I got by painlessly riding my bike on the trainer. I couldn’t run or go walking the rest of my pregnancy. The good news? The minute I delivered it went away and I suddenly no longer walked with a limp….and the biking did keep me in decent shape and I was running again pretty quickly. Hope that helps…

Thanks so much Clea! I’ll keep that in mind. Still, I’ve pinned my hopes on the Flexeril the midwives prescribed for the time being. My prescription should be ready in 20 minutes…

Hope it’s nothing serious Liza. Didn’t spot those guys on the course, but on reflection I did see some equally bizarre dress which I wish I’d taken pictures of now! Keep well.

Thanks Richard. I wish I’d been taking more pictures too. I need to get Asa interested in photography. I think my back just requires some patience. It’s just that Rocky and February are not all that far away…

The glute is probably experiencing delayed onset muscle outrage over the camo tights. I know someone who wears camo compression shorts (they actually look pretty good), so I won’t get too snarky, but methinks the time has come for an Ultrarunners of Walmart website.

Ooh, that would be cool. I could add a pretty awesome pic of me in a neon orange running singlet with matching purple and orange shorts that New Balance sent me to get me through the third trimester.

Hope your back is feeling better soon, Liza. Sending some healing vibes your way!

Thanks Cheryl! It’s not really much better, but I’m not as grumpy about it. So progress. 🙂
