Lordosis! And how.

LizaLiza

Well, my back has not cooperated with my training plan this week.  Most days I’ve just managed to shuffle around grunting my discomfort at anyone in earshot.  The chiropractor told me my sacrum was out of alignment and did some adjustments, which didn’t make the pain go away, but made it hurt in a better way for about a day.  I was back to a painful shuffle the following morning when I headed off to my second appointment with the chiropractor.  (I couldn’t find a framed copy of the Chiropractor’s Oath requiring multiple appointments in her office, but there is one, right?)  Apparently the hormone  relaxin (who got to name that one?)  is doing fine work relaxing my pelvic ligaments.  The chiropractor said it was likely things would keep slipping out of place.  (That was the gist of what she said anyway.)  I also got a massage while I was there — and I have to say, lying on a massage table on your stomach with your 23-pound belly fitted into a pillow with a hole in the middle, while some big fellow presses on your sacrum as you try to breathe using what little lung capacity that hasn’t been compromised by the aforementioned belly and the sacral pressure…well, it’s not relaxin’.  I kept telling myself that the discomfort might be worth it, but mostly I just felt like I’d been beat up at the end of the visit.  My father reminded me that my aunt is an extremely talented physical therapist and to “Call her already!”  I finally managed to pull myself out of my lack-of-running-induced torpor and make the call yesterday.  Auntie M. said my pirformis was likely being forced to work in ways it doesn’t want to work — because of my belly’s pull on my lower back, and she recommended some stretches and strengthening exercises.  She also said I should consider the stationary bike instead of running for a while.  Bleh.  So I’m going to give the treadmill one more go in the morning and if that doesn’t work, I’m going to drag out the Cyclops bike trainer and attach it to a bike that Asa hasn’t grown into yet.  And then I’ll fit a pillow over the seat and get cycling this next month.  My aunt also mentioned swimming, but I don’t feel quite that desperate about my training plan for Rocky yet.   Please keep your fingers crossed for the treadmill in the morning.

Eliot surprised me with a chiminea for our 9th anniversary this week.  (That’s the Pottery and Willow Anniversary for you traditional folks.  Simplicity and Flexibility.) I’ve been pestering him for one for a long time to no avail, so I  was entirely surprised when he unloaded it from the car.  It was around 104 degrees here in San Antonio today, so the actual lighting of the chiminea and the s’mores were entirely an Asa-driven event.  I was thankful to have an ice pack strapped around my back while I watched the fire from 10 feet away.  Eliot definitely won the anniversary gift exchange this year.  Darn him!  Year 10 is Tin and Aluminum.  Send me your cool ideas now.  I must redeem myself.

I know! I just hate it. I used up all my swimming love in high school. (In West Berlin behind the Wall.)

Enjoy reading your blog 🙂 I’m 5 months pregnant and still no physical issues – you’re an inspiration trying to run when it hurts that bad. Crossing fingers for you and the treadmill. If not, bike or swimming are great options making you able to move! 🙂
