Beginnings of Leadville Reflections and Dog School

There’s been a lot of chatter about Leadville and it’s hugeness this year, and I’ve been too busy running around like a headless chicken since we got back to San Antonio to comment, but Rod Bien’s recent blog post about sums up what I’ve been feeling. Take a read.

I’ll be at the race next year regardless because the Lifetime folks kindly rolled over my entry from this year. I won’t have crew though unless things change. Trying to get out of Winfield this year without hitting runners or bystanders was one of the most stressful driving experiences I’ve ever had — and I used to drive an ambulance.
Asa and I are off to our first dog obedience class now. I feel like it’s really training for us, so we don’t mess up this sweet dog. And then it’s 7 more miles on the treadmill. I put in 6 this morning before it started to feel too hot to spend anymore time in the garage. And then some kettle bells with the cheesy kettle bell video guy.

Sad that the LT100 has become a greedy corporate event. Even sadder that the environment is suffering too. Hopefully the citizens, local environmentalists, colorado trail organization etc will exert some pressure to limit the race to a sane number of participants and introduce appropriate limits and rules regarding transportation, parking etc.
Agreed. It’ll be really interesting to see what happens next year. It seems like there are some pretty straightforward solutions as far as limiting crew vehicles to one and limiting access to Winfield to pacers — who are brought in by shuttle. The weather was perfect this year too — and has been for the last 3 years. That can’t last and will put other pressures on the crewing and aid stations.
Sorry we missed you out there Liza – will have to coordinate a bit better next time! I know what you mean about the change in the event – the difference was very noticeable from 2010 when I was last there and not for the better – the corporate takeover has not been positive, but hopefully it is just teething pains while they sort themselves out, because it is such a great event otherwise. Agree it’s a great picture though 🙂 R
Definitely! Coming to Badwater next year? It’s a spectacle that needs to be seen… Right? I just found out New Balance is sponsor of Comrades, so I’m trying to see if they might help me get there to race. Of course, that would involve me actually proving to them that I can still race… Too bad they don’t think make a movie highlighting the exciting lives of running mothers is as enticing or inspiring as Anton’s “In The High Country.” Honestly, I think we could come up with a pretty good mock-umentary… We just need a good title.
And fingers crossed about Leadville next year. Hopefully somebody with good feedback has their ear.
