Rockhopper weekend at Bandera

LizaLiza

I spent the weekend out at the lodge at Bandera with Eliot and Asa and most all of our running buddies.  I’ll write something up after I catch up on some sleep and take a nice long hot shower.  In the meantime, all those elite male runners coming down for the race in January better be prepared — because Asa is ready for you.  So bring your cool gaiters and a slice of humble pie.  😉

Asa did great on our run up and around Sky Island! Glad we had him watching out for us and warning us about the dangerous Agarita  and Sotol.

“That is scat…that’s another word for poop!” was a nice Asa one-liner. I enjoyed his Fuzzy Wuzzy Was a Bear singing too. Took me back.

We’re trying to teach him all the really important things first.

He was hoping he might get to use his first aid kit on one of you. Glad he didn’t need to.

He has better form than I do, for sure.
I’ve heard about the rocks at Bandera, and you’re not kidding. Those would give our Indian Peaks a run for their money, and then some. My name for those is simple: “ankle breakers”.

Better form than me too. Yeah, Bandera doesn’t mess around with the rocks. It’s not really a minimalist shoe kind of place. There’s been a lot of rain and horse traffic that have torn up the easy trails. Should make for an interesting race this year.

Yeah.  I ran the 100k last year in a pair of cross country flats that I had been running in all over San Antonio, including Eisenhower Park, and it was a big mistake.  My feet were bruised for weeks.  This year I’m wearing the new Altra Lone Peak zero drop shoe.

Let me know how those work, will you?  I’m not sure what I’ll be wearing yet.
