I’m starting to think about MdS as a restful vacation with a bit running thrown in. I’m not underestimating the desert...
Headed to Balamer
I leave tomorrow morning to teach a Wilderness First Responder course up at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore for the next two weeks. My parents are going to watch Asa at their home in Virginia while I work. Asa couldn’t be more pleased. (Me neither.)
I’ll be living a hermit running existence while I’m teaching. That’ll be nice. Working and running and eating. (Oh my!) I might have to have the TV in the hotel room removed, so it doesn’t suck me in. Without a TV in the house, I’m pretty vulnerable in hotels.
I have to get away from this computer now and run 83 errands with the Boy.
I hear you about hotel TVs coming from a TV-less house! Just about any time I travel I’m super busy… and it doesn’t help when I stay up until 3:30 am watching infomercials.
Well, there is some pretty amazing stuff being created and sold out there…
😉
The percentage of normal population with no tv in their house: <1
The percentage of ultrarunners with no tv in their house: 80
I'm making up the exact stats, but has anyone else noticed this?
(We always seem to watch old episodes of Seinfeld at hotels.)
Funny, my wife and I are the same way. I always stay up WAY too late watching tv in the hotel. The worst part is that it’s usually reality tv. I suppose that no big deal, except it takes me exactly 13 seconds to get invested in the drama. Really? I need to get out more.
I definitely need some sort of plan — or a support group these next two weeks.
I love made up statistics. (93% of the time.)
It’d be a fun poll to take. And does it work the other way? Are people without TVs more likely to take up ultra running? “Well, there’s nothing to do. Might as well go run for five hours.Anything horrible on the USA network renders me unable to work the change channel button on the remote.
Some day I will learn how to properly use the comments on blogs. I meant to just post a comment, not reply. Hmph.
I can’t figure out how not to be a “Guest” in the replies here if that makes you feel any better.
I wouldn’t hate being TV-less, except I would miss watching all the documentaries we get from Netflix…I have a documentary problem 🙂 Then again, there’s always online streaming I guess. Maybe one day 🙂 Enjoy your hermit running life in Maryland!
Documentary addiction. What kind of withdrawl symptoms come with that? “Just one Ken Burns episode! I swear it’ll be my last!!” Then lots of shakiness while humming Civil War tunes.
Favorite documentary?
I’m too scared to see what happens if I have my docs taken away from me. I’m assuming cold sweats are involved, and probably sitting in the corner rocking back and forth mumbling to myself. Yikes. So I’ll continue on with my addiction 🙂
Hmmm, as for a favorite, that’s hard to pick! Right now I think Food Matters, Ingredients and Forks Over Knives are my top three faves (do you sense a theme?). I love learning about how crooked the industrial food system is 🙂
I’m going to have to check those out.
I do the same with TVs in hotels coming from a TV less house. Liza, are you teaching the WFR recert class Jan 27-29? Your name isn’t on any of the course info stuff on the web. Erin and I (both ER Nurses that took the same course with you 2 years ago) are thinking about taking that class….. Thanks!
Yup, WFR recert. Looking forward to seeing you and catching up very much. Glued to the Olympic Trails right now — on the computer.
hope you enjoy your class and trip Liza. We’ll be missing you!
The class is going well. Nice young wilderness loving folks. I am missing you all too. Can’t wait to hear more Big Bend stories.
