I’m starting to think about MdS as a restful vacation with a bit running thrown in. I’m not underestimating the desert...
Western States Crewing 195/365Liza
I am crewing and pacing Carolyn at her first Western States today! I’ve been coaching Carolyn since she began ultra running, and I am so grateful to have been part of her adventuring. Coaching has brought such great people and friends into my life.
Cinda is one of those folks too. And she’s my partner in crime today.
Our before picture: Me, Carolyn and Cinda
Cinda and I flip-flopped crewing stops with Carolyn’s dad and her boyfriend. Here we are hiding from the hot sun under Cinda’s umbrella at the first aid station.
(Note to self: Pick up whitening toothpaste.)
I was hot waiting at the aid stations, and I was a bit worried about Carolyn, but she handled the heat and cooled herself off all day like a champ.
(Cinda said, “Get in the picture!” while they were sponging Carolyn off with ice water. Don’t be jealous of my jugular veins. Yours will never be as big.)
I have no idea what I’m doing here.
“Good little runner!”
Maybe I’m pressing ice into her head?
What’s making me happy: How proud and excited Carolyn’s dad was all day.
Running: Pacing the last 20 miles of Western States today and tomorrow.
