I’m starting to think about MdS as a restful vacation with a bit running thrown in. I’m not underestimating the desert...
Band of Runners Trail CampLiza
Mission: To improve veterans’ well-being through trail running and its community.
WHO: The camp serves veterans and Gold Star spouses struggling to connect with their communities and challenged to be physically active. Elite and long-time trail runners, coaches and race directors from across the United States coach and mentor the participants. Band of Runners designed and directed Team RWB’s highly respected National Trail Running Camp for the past five years.
WHAT: Multiple trail runs in the Blue Ridge Mountains with specialized instruction from elite and long-time trail runners covering training, technical trail running, hill running, running form, strength training, nutrition, first aid and blister care, and night running. Nutritious meals, campfires, storytelling, and fellowship included.
WHEN: Veterans Day Weekend, November 10-12 2017 Registration opens March 1.
WHERE: Summit Initiatives, a high-performance teaming and training facility near Fincastle, Virginia and the Appalachian Trail in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
WHY: We’ve been honored to successfully connect hundreds of veterans to the trail running community and foster friendships and empathy between runners from military and non-military backgrounds for the past five years with Team RWB. We want to continue to support veterans and survivors’ mental and physical health by opening the doors to the wonderful trail running community and getting them out into the wilderness and onto the trails.
HOW & HOW MUCH: We need to raise $5,000 to sponsor the free attendance of 17 military veterans and Gold Star spouses. We need to raise another $5000 to bring in the coaches and mentors. We have filed our non-profit paperwork and will have our 501c3 number soon. Donations to fund the project can be made at Band of Runners on GoFundMe.
