This account of Western States pacing has been lost, and I cannot bring myself to rewrite it. The pictures from the post weren’t lost though, so here they are.

Me, Carolyn and Cinda before the race. (That’s my 3-hours of sleep and hoping for 30 minutes more face.)  Carolyn is running, which is good, since she clearly looks the most rested.

Carolyn’s very proud dad and her boyfriend, Scott. (I am back in the hotel room guzzling coffee.)

Me and Cinda waiting for Carolyn at Dusty Corners. (I need some whitening toothpaste.)

Me showing off my very large jugular veins while Carolyn (friend and coach-ee) gets iced down and sponged off.

The best power hiking this side of the Mississippi. Carolyn pretty much maintained this mood the entire 100 miles. It was impressive.

It was so much fun being along for the adventure.

What’s making me happy: All the potential captions for this picture.

Running: 20 miles and 6 hours of Western States.
