I’m starting to think about MdS as a restful vacation with a bit running thrown in. I’m not underestimating the desert...
Eliot’s Birthday 15/365
LizaDecember 24th: Eliot’s birthday
- Make mousse and ganache for Eliot’s cake
- Breakfast and kid wrangling (Don’t run into your grandmother’s hurt foot!)
- Make the cake part of Eliot’s cake
- Run 10 miles
- Hang out at the Memorial Park playground until Ruby has made at least 8 new best friends (After almost a week here, Eliot’s begun to recognize other dads on playground duty for the holidays. He’s been to at least four different playgrounds near his mom’s house, and it sounds like the other dads are doing the rounds too.)
- Finish off the Starbucks gift card (For the record, Ruby would rather starve than eat a chicken panini.) (Also, what the Starbucks in Montrose calls a panini, I have always called a sandwich. Is this some sort of Starbucks speak like Tall and Venti? Or does panini cover a broader range of foodstuff than I knew?)(None of this really matters as I finally managed to retrieved our warmed lunch and I’ve used up the gift card.)
- Saw cake in half horizontally
- Spread each layer with raspberry jam
- Make room for two layers of cake in the fridge next to the large bowl of mousse and all the exchange students’ food (So many heads of cabbage — in the fridge.)
- Bathe chocolate-covered Ruby
- Assemble cake: jam-covered layer, mousse, jam-covered layer, mousse, ganache, ganache, ganache, blackberries, ganache, candles
- Head to the theater to see “Coco” (If you’re pushing someone in a wheelchair and their foot really sticks out, take the ramp with caution on the 4th floor.) (Also, they’ve gotten rid of the 20-minute “Frozen” short and replaced it with 20 Mazda ads.) (And if you’re looking for a movie to see on your husband’s birthday after a day of kid-wrangling in a relative’s house when he might be longing for the bachelor life, “Coco” is the movie.)
- Birthday enchiladas!
- Cake eating and cake praise
- Send kids to bed with reminders about the Santa And Fast Asleep Compact
- Search unsuccessfully for jingle bells to simulate Santa’s sleigh outside the bedroom window
- Figure out gift for second exchange student
- Wrap, drink wine, wrap, drink wine, wine, wrap, wine
- Back to the deflatable mattress
Running: 10 miles easy
