I’m starting to think about MdS as a restful vacation with a bit running thrown in. I’m not underestimating the desert...
Trail camp is coming!Liza
Ruby, Asa and I fly to DC on Monday night and then the ball starts rolling downhill to trail camp. We’ll buy food and then drive down on Tuesday, set things up on Wednesday, and I’ll start teaching a Wilderness First Aid course for the mentors on Thursday. I’ll finish on Friday and then the campers arrive! We have 21 veterans or Gold Star family members coming. I’m really excited — and will also be so happy once it’s done and I’m just sharing videos and pictures with you all — and being overwhelmed by thank you note writing.
Did I tell you how Eliot is doing all the cooking this year? Yup. And my sister is going to be his sous chef. And my dad is the photographer. Asa and his cousins will be general minions. And my wonderful mother will make it all possible by making sure Ruby doesn’t wreak too much havoc. It’s funny to think she’s been at trail camp every year since she was a month old.
This is our first year as our own non-profit, and it’s also the smallest group of participants we’ve hosted. I think that’s going to be just right — though I really am going to miss the mentors who won’t be there this year. You just can’t have four coaches for every participant.
Thank you to everybody reading who has helped make this camp possible. It’s funded entirely by trail runners.
