I’m starting to think about MdS as a restful vacation with a bit running thrown in. I’m not underestimating the desert...
“Spent itself in channels”Liza
“Her full nature, like that river of which Cyrus broke the strength, spent itself in channels which had no great name on the earth. But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.” – George Eliot
This is the quote I’m aspiring to have read at my funeral — hopefully a a good number of decades from now. I came upon it in this article called, “You’ll Never Be Famous — And That’s O.K.“by Emily Esfahani Smith. Brad Stulberg, one of the authors along with Steve Magness, of Peak Performance tweeted about it. Their book is definitely worth a read if you haven’t already.
I didn’t do much to make that happen yesterday, though. Ruby got on my last nerve and, well, I’ll be lucky if she attends my funeral at this point. Thankfully, 3 year-olds don’t have perfect memories. She’s so incredibly grumpy when she wakes up from a nap that I always think about doing away with naptime — except she’s also really grumpy if she doesn’t get a nap. Le sigh.
RUNNING: Well, 50k was on my schedule and I’ve run 19 miles of that. I didn’t get enough sleep this week, and I felt it for 14 miles before I decided to throw in the towel and take a nap. Then I ran 5 more miles and felt better, but by then it was time to pick up the kids. It seems foolish to go out and finish, so I might just wipe the slate clean and try again soon. We’ll see.
