I’m starting to think about MdS as a restful vacation with a bit running thrown in. I’m not underestimating the desert...
Your medical certificate for the 1 mile race
LizaI sat down to work through emails this morning and realized the medical certificate for Diagonale des Fous was due on the 15th. There was all sorts of red bolded type that I’d managed to overlook (by not opening the email about the medical certificate.)
I had a physical in February and called my doctor’s office to see if they’d sign off based on that.
– “So I’m running this 100-mile race in October and they have a medical form and I just need a signature saying I’m healthy.”
-“Sure. No problem. It’ll take 24 hours.”
-“It’s just a signature saying I’m fit enough to run 100 miles in the mountains. Could we make it 5 hours?”
-“Probably not.”
-“Well, I’ll bring it in and keep my fingers crossed. Also, it’s all in French. I’ve translated the important bits.”
(I don’t speak French, but I do speak Medical Form — and my friend Lise helped me with a few words.)
I loaded Ruby up and drove to the doctor’s office, reexplained the need for speed and the French-ness, got Ruby back in the car, and headed home. We got a call 10 minutes later.
“I was able to catch the doctor between patients, and he signed your 1-mile certificate. You can pick it up anytime.”
1 mile, eh?
Well, I should be fit enough to make it that far.
Take a look at Jason’s Schlarb’s account of the race in 2014 though. Oh, geez. The doc might not have signed off on that.
Anybody want to come out there with me?
