Jam-packed

LizaLiza

Most days I am in awe of people who have successful and challenging professional careers, AND happy families AND are talented hobbyists. Doctors who have four sweet kids, who are also mountaineers, and ultrarunners and bread bakers.

I tread water most days just barely keeping my head above water doing none of those things while my children argue.

But I have to say, you might have been impressed with the sheer volume I checked off today.

Emails and coaching from 4am.

Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and straightening before the plumber arrived to unclog the kitchen sink.

Calls and emails for trail camp.

Grumpy 3 year-old handling.

Visiting with dear out-of-town friend.

Chicken care.

Fighting kids wrangling.

Medication pickup.

Coaching calls.

Picking Eliot up WHILE recording Becoming Ultra podcast.

Lyft to airport to Phoenix to Tucson to teach.

Into bed in the school bunk room.

Running: Zilch. I was supposed to do an hour easy. I’m sure the doctor-parent-ultrarunning-bread-bakers could have gotten that done.  And I’m sure they also would have managed to take a shower.

I beg to differ. I’m in awe of you. “people who have successful and challenging professional careers, AND happy families AND are talented hobbyists” You have a successful and challenging (more than one actually) professional career – you’re a coach, trainer/teacher, founder and leader of a trail running camp to help veterans, a student (IIRC you were going back to school), runner (pro in the eye of the beholder – and you have sponsors) AND you’re a wife and mom (the fam seems happy to me, as happy as any real-life fam might…not the shiny instagram happy) and your hobbies include growing chickens, blogging, and being awesome in a squid hat. And having one of the best laughs. I’m impressed with the volume, of course, but the it’s really the quality you bring, the heart – and the perspective, humor, kindness and generosity with which you move through your life and activities. Your spirit, that’s something special, and you sharing it does good in the world.
