I’m starting to think about MdS as a restful vacation with a bit running thrown in. I’m not underestimating the desert...
Chickens and things and my friend Gene
LizaI know. Don’t fall over; I did actually write a blog post. Oh, and since the kids are back in school it’s the first post in the blog streak. September through June is daily blogging or I’ll burn the squid hat.
We have acquired six baby chicks since I last checked in with you all.
Chick selection at the Tractor Supply Co.
The Chosen 6.
We only wanted 3, but the store has a six-chick minimum. So Sweetheart and Bolt (the yellow ones) and Camilla, Pio, and the twins (the ones with yellow butts) came home with us.
They have not affected my running any. So about that…
I have been running a fair bit — enough to eat vast amounts of food and still fit in my shorts. The best of all possible worlds.
Today is: 70 minutes easy with some pickups because tomorrow is a easy to moderate 50k in the neighborhood. I think I’m going to buy myself a finisher’s prize.
No racing this month, but to make up for that, I’m running two races in October.
Tussey Mountain Back on October 8th — the 50 mile road championships. I’m hoping to run a 6:50 or less to qualify for the US 100 team. There, I said it.
AND THEN, I’m running Diagonale des Fous on Reunion Island. 100 miles with almost as much vertical gain as Hardrock on October 19th. Yup, the 19th. Look, it was a free plane ticket, race entry and lodging and the opportunity to write a ridiculous race report. What was I going to do?
OK, this seems like a good start to the blog streak.
Thank you to Gene who always checks in on me and encourages me to write. He is the best and also sends the best pictures!

Excited to hear running is going well and to hear how your racing goes! (50k was today, right?) I’ve seen the ads for Tussey. And cool you’re going for the team!! Best to you & all your chicks, human and otherwise.

Thanks!! Coming to your neck of the woods this weekend to teach. Will send a note.
