I’m starting to think about MdS as a restful vacation with a bit running thrown in. I’m not underestimating the desert...
The Badwater Crossing
LizaRuby and Asa are both in school today, and I have been plowing through old emails. 46 to go!
Leadville was wonderful as usual. More on that in the coming days. After Leadville, I headed to Death Valley to crew my friend’s Badwater 146 Crossing. (Whirlwind summer vacation and most excellent work trip.) The Crossing goes from Badwater in Death Valley (282 feet below sea level — the lowest point in the Continental US) to the summit of Mount Whitney (14,508ft the highest point in the Continental US). The Badwater 135 race is from Badwater to Whitney Portal at abut 8,400ft. And, let me tell you, those last 11 (22 really) miles and 6,100 feet of elevation gain are no joke.
I’ll sit down tomorrow with some actual thoughts. A few pictures will have to do for now, so I can shower before I pick up Ruby — and not alienate the mothers of any new friends she’s made.
