I’m starting to think about MdS as a restful vacation with a bit running thrown in. I’m not underestimating the desert...
12 Years, Marmots, Ruby, and Badwater Crossings
LizaEliot and I are headed into our 13th year of marriage. 12 years down, 78 to go to beat the longest married couple’s record (based on my cursory Wikipedia search.) Watch out Karam and Katari Chand! We’re coming for you.
Eliot reads this blog — which is really all I need to say about the kind of husband he is. My dad used to tell my sister and me, “You’re mother is a saint!” I’ve been similarly blessed. I think I’d have to phrase it, “Your dad is a demigod!” to get the sentiment across to Asa. Ruby already thinks Eliot is a prince.
Speaking of Ruby…
Apparently my mother had “hidden” some Starbursts up there.
I learned a lot during Ricky’s Badwater Crossing, but perhaps the most surprising was that marmots enjoy Honey Stinger Waffles.
This guy was about 2 miles from the summit gobbling down Honey Stinger products someone had foolishly left in their unattended pack. What’s best about this picture, is that the waffle is the exact size a marmot would make a waffle — if it was going to make itself one. I love this picture.
You should read Grant Maughan’s account of his Badwater 146 Solo Self-Contained Project when you have time.
The rest of the post is up on Facebook and Grant is worth following.

Happy Anniversary!!! Also; I hope Ruby got down from her “ladder” safely.

The child is alive. Lord knows what today will bring though.

Congratulations to you both!

Thanks! Year 13 sounds ominous. We might just call is Year 14 years minus 11 months.
