Ruby caught the edge of a coffee table with her cheek yesterday.  We had to take her to an urgent care and get her super-glued up.  (Yes, yes, I know it’s different than actual super glue.)  I will say, one of the nice aspects of living within spitting distance of a major highway and across from the university here,  is that there are a heap of urgent care clinics within a 5-minute radius.  Ruby was a trooper.  At one point, I was laying on the examining table with Ruby face-up on top of me while Eliot held her face still and the doctor cleaned the wound.  Asa stood nearby with my phone distracting Ruby with an episode of Peppa Pig.  Team Howard!

The biggest downside to the event besides the tiny girl’s pain and the possible end to her future supermodeling career is that we can’t go to the pool for the next five days.  The kids and I had been living at the pool most afternoons, and I’m not sure exactly what we’re going to do instead — that doesn’t involve multiple timeouts and me losing my mind.

The Marathon 2 Marathon training was a bit of a bust last week, but I managed to pick up my overall speed.  More details to come.

Good luck over there! I once busted open my finger before we went on summer vacation. 10 stitches and some one-armed swimming in the Blanco River so I wouldn’t get my stitches wet. We were still gone when the stitches were due to come out so my mom took them out at my aunt’s kitchen table. At least you have some skills ?

Hope Ruby is okay Liza. Life without the pool sounds challenging – good luck! I broke my arm when I was 10 just before the summer vacation and spent the next six weeks with my arm in plaster in a plastic bag, to keep it dry as I splashed about in the sea – with mixed results as you might imagine 😉 Hope the training is going well – speed for marathons is good.

Ruby still might be able to support Eliot and me in our golden years with modeling proceeds. 😉 Marathon training hasn’t been good this summer — but it’s about to get really good. Thank you school year. 🙂
