I’m starting to think about MdS as a restful vacation with a bit running thrown in. I’m not underestimating the desert...
Gift cards and Goodwill resolutions
LizaEliot, Asa, Ruby and I were given a $50 gift card from Amazon for Christmas. I have taken on the responsibility of spending it as quickly as possible. Three things: 1. Gift cards burn holes in my pocket. 2. Gift cards should only be spent on things you wouldn’t buy yourself otherwise. Phone case for Eliot’s upgraded phone? No. Handmade Creepy Cute Blonde Doll Head Throw Pillow?
Well, no, because it exceeds the gift card. But that’s the spirit.
3. You can’t use the gift card to buy someone else a present. You must honor the gift card givers intentions.
Anyway, I’m strangely uninspired tonight. I mean, I’m inspired to use the gift card; I just can’t find anything on Amazon that meets the other two criteria.
This brings us to 2016 Resolution #10: Other than food and household maintenance items, I’ll only shop at Goodwill this year. This is a combo fun-challenge/perspective-giving/lesson-for-the-kids/financially-responsible resolution. Anyway, Wednesdays are half price day at Goodwill, and my haul included a $0.25 food dish for the kittens and a $0.50 pink flower mirror for Ruby’s room. I would take pictures of the rest of the very inexpensive things I bought that met pre-race jitters shopping needs, but it’s late and I have get some sleep. More tomorrow.

hmmmm. I am doing Bandera also and have only done two pretty easy 50km races in my short running stint.. How come I don’t have the pre-race jitters you have? 🙂 Your list inspired me to make a list also AND I too gave up refined sugar. It’s only been 4 days, but I think I feel better. First two days were HARD, but less cravings today. -thx
Liza
You don’t have the same pre-race jitters because you haven’t crawled behind a sotol on that course, curled up in a ball, and thrown a pity party for yourself on that course like I have. 😉 That’s so cool about the sugar. It took a good month for the sugar cravings to really subside for me — or at least for me to stop staring grumpily at my black coffee.

Great resolutions! You could also shop at Boysville on Olmos (in the Trinity area) http://boysvillethriftstore.org
Liza
Cool! Thanks for the recommendation.

One of the many reasons I love you, Eliot.
