I’m starting to think about MdS as a restful vacation with a bit running thrown in. I’m not underestimating the desert...
Canadian donut eating and Bandera racing
LizaAsa got a “Weird but True!” book for Christmas the year with “300 outrageous facts.” We learned today that Canadians eat more donuts than any other nationalities. You know, what with that information and the open carry laws here in Texas now…
Ruby’s feet would certainly get less sweaty in these fuzzy boots way up in Canada. 🙂
Bandera 100k Thoughts: I feel like I’m finally fit enough to start training to race it well. I would crush it if it were in March. Basically, it’s going to hurt a lot. But I figure, at least I know that — so it won’t be a surprise when I feel like crawling behind a sotol to cry. I counting that as a plus. I am really looking forward to being out there and spending the day running. My secret tapering techniques this week include hot baths and beet juice guzzling.
Number 9 of the 10 2016 resolutions.
9. Read one book a month.
Question: Is there a difference between a resolution and a goal for 2016? I’ve noticed a lot of people writing about goals because “nobody keeps resolutions.”
Kris
Was this the race where your teammates Katie and Dominic had to mess with your bra because it was chafing? And now they’re engaged… Good luck, hope your race is chafe free!
Liza
No, that was Rocky. I haven’t had to have anything cut off at Bandera so far. We’ll see what Saturday brings though. 🙂

Great picture : ) Sometimes the temperature outside just isn’t the point, eh?
So, what’s your favorite running gun? (full disclosure: doing a lot of solo runs in the Rockies, that idea had actually crossed my mind… and I know someone who carries on runs. Yep).
Liza
I had to stop carrying pepper spray with me because I kept accidentally spraying myself in the face with it. No guns in the spandex for me.

Ruby is certainly growing up fast – Savannah loves her furry boots too, especially in mid summer, and then crocs in winter – go figure! Glad you are feeling ready for Bandera, so good luck with it – I’m sure you’ll do much better than you are letting on!
Liza
I certainly hope so. But I’ve got a backup plan if the WS ticket falls through. Have you ever run Lavaredo?
Pommers
Liza – no, I haven’t ventured to Italy for a specific race, but if I were to, Lavaredo would be a good one – beautiful scenery to distract from the task at hand!

I think for the “hair splitters” out there, a resolution is a general idea (“I will read more”) whereas a goal is a definable entity (“I will read one book a month”); however, in my opinion, without a plan (“I will pick up a book before I turn on the TV”), they are both just wishful thinking. Dictionary.com (yes, I am using that as a reference) gives one definition of resolution as “the act of resolving or determining upon an action, course of action, method, procedure, etc. ” which to me incorporates more of the idea of a plan than just “goal.” I think you mentioned resolutions as a something toward bettering yourself. Goals are just things you want to accomplish, but you could still be your same old rotten self all year. 😉

Post the titles of the books you read this year and what you think about it. I love to read and would love suggestions.
