I’m starting to think about MdS as a restful vacation with a bit running thrown in. I’m not underestimating the desert...
You had me at caffeinated and more extreme tapering
LizaThis is where I spent my afternoon rather than running or packing my bags for Bandera.
I didn’t even get any bouncing in, so the extreme taper continues. (Ruby bounced on her nose, and I decided to leave rather than rack up more OSHA violations for the place.) I am going to run the 1-mile kids race before packet pickup tomorrow. I’ll be running with Ruby, which might be a lot like my pace around mile 40 on Saturday. So there’s that.
In other news, Tailwind sent me this fine package for the race.
I like these people a ton — in part because they support the Trail Camp for RWB and in part because they write my name with an exclamation mark. I also like the taste of their product, which is handy. And it doesn’t turn my stomach 40 miles into a race. Also handy. They have a new caffeinated flavor “Green Tea Buzz,” which I’ll try at Bandera. Sure, trying something for the first time during a race seems like a bad plan, but I don’t think I’ll need it during the kids race, so I won’t get a chance to try it before Saturday — unless I spike my coffee with it tomorrow.
I’ll try to get an actual race plan and fueling plan posted tomorrow.

Extreme tapering can be surprisingly effective, I find, as it forces you to carry out what is probably the right amount of tapering 🙂
Hope Ruby is ok after her nose bouncing episode!
Green tea buzz sounds inscrutable – oriental fusion of antioxidants and honey bee perhaps? 😉
Liza
You are right. And I actually forgot the Green Tea Buzz, so I’ll let you know how it goes — and look for an ingredients list — the next time I run long.

Taper good; extreme taper, like Pommers said, can force you to actually taper like you should.
Good Luck at Bandera!!!

Thanks, Gene! There might be more extreme tapers in my future.
