I’m starting to think about MdS as a restful vacation with a bit running thrown in. I’m not underestimating the desert...
Cakes, anniveraries, ER visits, blogging goals, and training
LizaSo the 24th was Eliot’s birthday,
(Yeah, I made that. Eliot’s cake is pretty much all the baking I do all year, so I try to make it count.)
(It did.)
(It did.)
And then it was Christmas,
(Find the two kittens in this picture.)
And then we flew to DC on the 26th.
It is my parents’ 45th anniversary — and where Santa left the good presents.
(The storm drain and the last place the drone flew.)
Anyway, what with all that, and teaching a Wilderness First Responder Recert course up in Austin last weekend, and the Bandera training, it’s been hard to find the wherewithal to write.
4-hour blog-writing PAUSE
See, I was just getting going with this post, when Asa smashed his head into a playground bridge. Now I’m writing from the pediatric emergency room in Lansdowne, Virginia.
(Is this giant dog in the waiting room unnerving, or is it just me? Maybe it’s because it’s so shiny. That’s not natural…)
No, no, I know it’s just a matter of dedication. And making peace with some potentially rushed entries. So, that said, I’m going to post something for the next 370 days.
As a friend reminded me: “[T]he harder the way, the more worthwhile the journey.” I’m sure Wilfred Thesiger was referring to daily blogging.
OK, so here’s the running log:
I am solidly a Bulbous Sea Horse in the Manatee to 100k program.
I finally feel fit again. Not racing fit, but fit. I wish Bandera was another two months away. But it’s not. And so, I’m going to do what I can. (I’m still hoping to advance one more stage in the program before January 9th.)
More from me tomorrow and the next day and the next…

That shiny dog is just there to drum up business – I’ve got to believe more than one toddler has had an issue trying to climb that thing and wrestle it to the ground.
Liza
I should have asked about that Allen. They offered Asa a slurpee before we left. Highly shellacked dogs and slurpee machines… Suspect.

What a beautiful cake! Bet it tasted wonderful too.
I thought you meant Landsdowne MD (eye roll at self). We’re closer than I thought – maybe next time.
Look forward to reading a post a day – what a challenge to set for yourself along with everything else! Glad the fitness is coming along, will be rooting for you at Bandera.
Best wishes for a great start to 2016, emergency rooms, drones and storm drains nowhere to be found! (just good runs, training and racing and time and fun with family & friends,…and more cake)
Liza
Best wishes for 2016 for you too! I always look forward to reading your posts and tweets. 🙂

So… Y’all stay in Leesburg VA?! That’s a bit far from Aspen Hill MD. If you plan to run on the towpath, please let me know — that’s about half way between us.
Liza
Frank, Thank you so much for the invite. We don’t get to get together as a big family much ever, so I haven’t wanted to head out for a run much outside the neighborhood here.

One cat is obvious in front of the bag on the left; the other is in the bag beside Asa. The one in the bag has a cute white spot on its nose. Which one was “devil cat” when you got them?
