Pilgrimage
We made a trip to Austin today to collect my friend’s Bandera drop bags before they were deposited at Goodwill. J. and I were too exhausted and sore to hunt them down when we headed out of the park around midnight after the race. We figured we’d pick them up the following morning when we came to help clean up. But our morning turned out to be a bit later than Joe and Joyce’s morning, and the dropbags were already on their way to Austin by the time Eliot arrived to collect them for us. (He wanted to go for a long bike ride at Bandera, so J. and I held down the house and ate bacon instead of helping to break things down. I would feel more guilty about that, but I wasn’t going to be of much use to anybody that morning. I’ll have to redeem myself at Rocky.)
Saving J’s race paraphernalia from Goodwill was a very nice reason to finally get up to Austin. The 60 to 90 minute drive is just long enough to keep us from visiting our friends there — and making more frequent pilgrimages to the Lego store.
We met up with Joe and Joyce for lunch and then headed to the Austin Homebrew store, a bike shop, and collected J’s bags. Asa was a prince through all of it, so we made the Lego store pilgrimage next — and now these little guys are sharing the house with us.
And then we used up a Cracker Barrel Christmas present from my aunt and uncle on the way home. (I pretended the fish wasn’t fried in butter, so I’d have something Whole30 to eat. I gave Asa my cinnamon sugar sprinkled and butter soaked sweet potato. ”Here’s some pie, son.”)
A fine day, except I’ve got about 4 hours of work to get done before I turn in and it’s 11pm. Arrgh!
Also, I made the mistake of starting to watch Downton Abbey. Crack. Pure and simple. Golly.

And you didn’t call me…I take it very personally.
No, you’re slated for a 5 year-old free visit to Austin, so we can visit properly.
