Catching up and Arkansas Pacing
Hey there!
I’ve been wallowing around in trail running camp tasks. Advertising, writing briefs, letters, orders and the like. We’ve got some great folks coming to help now.
Marshall Ulrich, Mike Morton, David Riddle, Matt Hart, Pam Smith, Megan Kimmel, Dave James, Dominic Grossman, Katie DeSplinter, Zach Bitter, Jason Bryant, Alison Bryant, Joe Prusaitis, Jay Danek, David Hanenburg and I’ll be there too.
Sunny Blende is coming to talk nutrition.
Dang!
We’ve got 100 vets coming and now we need the same number of folks in the trail running community at large. I think we have about 80 spaces left. If you can’t come, please help spread the word. (I’ve posted the word and the camp schedule at the bottom.)
Me teaching strangling techniques on the course last month. ”Move that hand more in front of the trachea…”
Next: Head squashing.
I signed up to do something foolish in December. So I’ve started to train in earnest for that this week too. I’ll post my training schedule for it once I get back from Arkansas. (Internet accountability and all that.)
I’m heading to the 29th biggest state EARLY tomorrow morning to pace a good friend at Arkansas Traveler. I can’t wait to see the course and do some running on it.
Okay, gotta get back to work on the Trail Running Camp stuff. Let me know if you have any suggestions for it.
Mount Baker watching over us.
Big packs filled with lots of orange cheese and summer sausage — and glacier stuff.
That’s the loneliest toilet in the world up there off the Sulphur glacier.
The word:
Team Red, White & Blue is a non-profit veteran support organization that helps combat veterans reintegrate into civilian life and into their local communities. They aim to transcend short-term fundraising efforts. They see exercise and its physical and psychological benefits as a means to support a vet’s efforts to reintegrate. At the same time, they use physical fitness as a means to create strong relationships between veterans and their fellow Americans. They introduce vets to runners and running groups. They invite them into the running community. They do the same in the triathalon, cycling, and Cross-Fitting communities.
Joe Prusaitis, Alison Bryant, Jason Bryant and I have designed a trail running camp to help achieve RWB’s goals to create connections, friendships and mentorships between vets and the trail running community. Team RWB received a grant that has allowed us to bring in a number of high profile trail runners to help with the camp. Some of these runners include Mike Morton, Marshall Ulrich, Pam Smith, Megan Kimmel, Dave James, Matt Hart, Dominic Grossman, David Riddle and Zach Bitter. Jason, Alison, Joe and I will also be there and Sunny Blende will attend to discuss running and racing nutrition.
One hundred veterans will attend. Our goal is to have at least 100 civilian trail runners and their families attend as well. We need community members to create community! We would really appreciate your help spreading the word about the camp. It’s open to anyone of any ability level who wants to attend. And while it was designed to serve RWB’s mission, it will be a stand-alone running camp – a stellar one. See the schedule below. The camp will be out at Camp Eagle near Rocksprings, Texas where Joe hosts the Nueces 50. It’s scheduled for Veteran’s Day weekend, November 9-12.
