Other happenings around Leadville
A friend of mine is embarking on the Nolan’s 14 today. Fourteen 14-ers in the Sawatch Range over about 100 miles with a sixty hour time limit.

Asa and I are going to head over to send him off. I figure Asa’s good luck for those kind of endeavors. And I want the boy to have the chance to see as many peopledoing as many extraordinary things as possible before he starts kindergarten next week.
I am not drinking instant Folger’s this morning — in case you were worried about my race tomorrow. The wonderful friends who are housing Asa and me while we’re here insisted that no microwave coffee-ing would take place under their roof as long as there was a functioning coffee maker in their kitchen and good coffee to put in it. So I wandered into their kitchen at five this morning and puttered around and helped myself.
I ran into some old friends from Arkansas yesterday in town, which made my day. I am not a native Texan, so I’m afraid I didn’t really hold up my end of the intrastate trash talk. Please send suggestions because I need to be ready when I pace a friend at Arkansas Traveler this October. They’d heard the race might be 2-3 miles longer this year with the trail into Winfield and another reroute. I’ll let you know if the lack of dust was worth it on Sunday.
I was asked if I’m as goofy and spastic “for real” as I am on this blog. I blundered through a quick answer yesterday, but I thought about it a lot (after Asa smashed me in the head with his chin and gave me a black eye last night) and I answer the answer is, “I wish.” I wish I was quite so goofy. I’m working on it.

I think you’re as goofy as they come….but, there is always room for improvement. If you need a coach, I’m here for ya
I wish I could be there tomorrow to tell you “you look awful”, but have a great time tomorrow running through the skies!! The Rockhopper force will be with you!
It’s so good to know you were thinking it Niki! You are awesome.
good luck tomorrow!!! my thoughts will be with you as i do my “long run” at sea level….GO LIZA!!! — thanks for your constant inspiration!
Thank you Erin!
If you’re looking to inspire kindergartners via Nolan’s 14 maybe Matt or Jared can make a commemorative macaroni picture (do they still make those?) on top of Shavano.
I’m hoping they still do those macaroni pictures. It’s the only reason I’m sending him to kindergarten. That and the Spanish.
You are the best at being goofy. One of things I adore about you little Liza- you always keep me entertained:) Rock on tomorrow. I will be rooting for you from VA!
Thanks Trimble!
Liza, first CONGRATS!!.. on a solid second place at Leadville!
.. and B) it was pretty awesome of you to stop by and see us off on our 59 hour 14er adventure. Thank you for that.
Hope your recovery is quick and no crow bars were necessary upon return home.
I wanted to have Asa send y’all off with a nerf gun salute. Maybe next time.
