I’m starting to think about MdS as a restful vacation with a bit running thrown in. I’m not underestimating the desert...
Plans, appearances, and kale
LizaI’m back at the Starbucks again this morning making good use of some birthday gift cards. My right knee is still unhappy, but it’s a lot better than yesterday — so I’ve started to think about my next 100. Who are you calling an addict!?! (Don’t look at the computer screen like that Mom.) I’m actually signed up for Umstead at the end of March. If I can heal up 100% and still have enough time to get some good training in, I’ll run. If not, I’ll have to look further down the line. Keep your fingers crossed the sooner, rather than later pans out — or I’m going to have to find some other excuse than running for having a sinfully dirty house. I would take a picture of the weeds that have sprung up since the rains started — but I am actually too embarrassed. Think Sleeping Beauty’s castle — minus the castle and the beautiful sleeping.
In other news, I got to go to Austin Monday and talk with Ian Sharman at a coffeehouse gathering arranged by Meredith Terranova and supported by Drymax socks.
(Absolutely no idea what I’m saying, but aren’t my MT110s nice and shiny?)
Ian was a super nice fellow and had wonderful stories. (Well, duh.) The whole thing had a surreal quality — “And there I was in this coffeehouse, and I was sitting in a metal chair on a stage, wearing silver sneakers… and the fastest 100 mile runner in the US was sitting next to me, and I was talking about how I didn’t cross train, but I did play with a lot of Legos.” I did gush a bit about his podcast — and suggested a segment on pacers and pacing. (Cuz wouldn’t that be great?) In any event, we both told our respective Rocky adventures and answered Larry King-esque questions. And then my friend Chris and I drove home to San Antonio.
I’d write more, but I bought a yoga video yesterday and I’m determined to use it before I pick up Asa. That’s right. Yoga. Later I’ll be using the foam roller and eating kale. New leaf: Turned.

Oooo, you should try Kale Chips! They are super easy to make (olive oil, salt, kale, and an oven are all you need), and allegedly amazingly delicious! I have yet to make them…I’ve been too busy crafting other yummy kale concoctions, but it’s next on my list 🙂

They’re on Thursday’s menu now. Thx! Green breakfast smoothies are back on the mix too.

Ooo, ooo, ooo! Adding 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric is most excellent for fighting inflammation (great for us runners!). I add it to our smoothie every morning now. The taste is super mild so it doesn’t ruin the flavor of the smoothie 🙂 There’s raw turmeric, too, but I’ve only ever used the dried/ground version of it from the spice aisle.

Love the shoes! Dang, I missed you in Austin! I read you would be at Austin Java, but I thought maybe it was in San Antonio!

We don’t do non-Starbucks coffeehouses so much in SA. I actually ordered a tall soy latte and the barista gave me the evil eye.
Sorry I missed you!

We really enjoyed it. Thanks for making the trek up 35!
