Course is looking good

LizaLiza

I marked the heck out of the course from Chapas to Crossroads Wednesday.  The only way someone might get lost between those aid stations is if they start thinking things like: “Should I get off this highway-like trail and wander off into the woods now?”  (I am speaking empathetically to my  peeps.  I have something like an anti-homing pigeon sense of direction.)

The ruts from the horses have been worn down and it’ll be fine running on this section.  And it’s going to feel hot.  It was only 65 degrees when I was marking the course and I think it’s going to be 69 on race day.  Texas in January.  🙂

We’ll head out to Bandera today to help out with packets and anything else that needs doing.  And then at 3pm, Asa will be running in the kids 1 mile race.  Joe has bibs for all the kids and Asa is over-the-moon excited about that.  He’ll be sporting some fine gaiters for the run and my friend Tim has volunteered to crew.  Asa expects to sweep the 4 year-old boys age group, but we’ve talked about how it’s not about winning — just about finishing.  Note to self.  🙂

My mother in-law is down for a visit, so I need to sign off and be present.

It’s surprising what goes through your mind after miles of trails, exhaustion and low blood sugar levels – those woods look so inviting, and surely the organisers mentioned that in the race briefing….. 🙂 Good luck to the little man running, I’m sure he’ll do great – we’re hoping to get ours in a race or two this year as well. Exciting stuff 🙂

Joe Prusatis, the race director, told me how one year he saw a runner hurdle a large log he had dragged across a wrong turn and put a bunch of wrong way signs on.  Hurdle.  Impressive.
The kids’ run at Bandera was so much fun.  The adults definitely enjoyed the event as much as the children.  Face hurts from smiling so much.

Are you traning Asa like Barny trained Oppie before the big race? 🙂

I have remained blissfully Barney ignorant despite Asa.  Did the training involve handing Oppie water bottles as he did laps around the dining room?

Thanks Trimble.  I did.  You’d like this race.  Maybe you’ll have to come down next year…

Thanks Niki!  We missed you.  Can’t wait to do some running with you this year — or anything at all.  🙂
