I’m starting to think about MdS as a restful vacation with a bit running thrown in. I’m not underestimating the desert...
Sore arms and popular moms
LizaI have to sit very still to type, so I don’t jostle any muscles in my arms. I am sooore from those push-ups. Today I’m starting back in on all those leg squats and lunges again. I expect to be a bag of soreness by Friday. Does anyone have a leg workout video they like? I do better with videos for strengthening exercises. Push it in the DVD player, turn off the brain, suffer for 20-30 minutes — nothing but net. That core workout one I have is an easy habit now. I’ve even stopped having hateful thoughts about the pretty little girl demo-ing all the exercises.
I went to Asa’s back-to-school briefing last night. No hotdogs. No uncut grapes. Raisins are fruits of the devil. Be nice in the parking lot. Check. I left the whole parent-fest feeling like the unpopular girl in 7th grade. There was lots of hugging, high-pitched “Hi’s” and cheerful catching-up chatter in the atrium. Excitement about children getting the same teacher. Lots of cute dresses and strappy sandals. Eliot gave me a nice pep talk afterwards about how I hadn’t put any energy towards making friends there — so my experience wasn’t evidence that I was inherently unlikeable. (He’s better at not globalizing things.) Whatever. It did not help that I went with one of the two mom friends I have here who is sweet and out-going and engaging and lovely. Maybe it’s time I get some strappy sandals…
Anybody have any suggestions about the site? Anything to delete or add? Is the bumper sticker/mug thing annoying?
Running: I’ve got 60 hilly minutes on the schedule today and I’m looking forward to them.
Push-ups: 4,5,4,4,5
Nutrition: In a minute

Love the picture behind blog post as a background, home turf:)
I never made friends with any mom or teacher at the school, and I put 2 kids through high school by now. It’s overrated. Most of them are home-staying bad-eating habits car-shuttling talking-shopping anyway. Admit it, we are outcast. We’ll always be. So, stop feeling bad. There are moms like us, but since they are busy and shy (just like us), we’ll never get to meet them.
I emailed you leg workouts, but I don’t have DVD. I believe in some serious butt-kicking gym weights:) Add tricep dips to your push ups! You can do them from the chair, or couch, or a few books on the floor:)

No, but how do you really feel about those moms? 😉 Thanks for that and thanks for the leg workouts. Now I just need some motivation. Anyone?

LOL, if I were a mom, I’d be exactly the same way as you and Olga 🙂 I wouldn’t worry with the strappy sandals…they don’t usually go too well with runners’ feet 😉
I really do think the site looks awesome, and I agree with Olga, the background picture is a nice touch. The only thing I can think of is to maybe widen the posting section, and make the sidebar a little narrower so that it’s not as prominent. But otherwise, Tim has done a GREAT job! Now I’m looking at my blog dreaming up changes to make to it 🙂

The injury was actually good for my toenails. I’m in a rare strappy sandal wearing window. I figure it’ll be over by September and I’ll be too tired from the mileage to worry about my mom networking failures. And thanks for the site thoughts.

I’ve really been enjoying reading your blog – thanks for the daily posts, smattering of humor, and reminders of Texas.
Since you asked – for me, the bumper sticker/mug thing drives me a little crazy. I try to scroll to keep it off the screen. Would love to be able to pause it, at the very least?
Also wondering if there’s any way to get the full posted text in Google Reader instead just a teaser? I don’t mind clicking over to this site if I have to, but prefer to read everything in Reader if there’s a way to do it. Just curious.
Thanks Liza! It’s also been fun reading your race reports!

I thought that might be the case with the sticker. I will ask Tim how to stop it — and about the google reader. Thanks!

I updated the feed. See if you can refresh the list or re-subscribe if need be. I tested in Google Reader and it appears to load the full feed for me.

Thanks Tim. It’s like the blog god is listening…

Thank you, blog god! It works great 🙂

I love your new site. Your posts are always funny. If I ever do another ultra , I’ll have to get one of your mugs (currently I am just…”mom who runs a lot”). Coffee is the only thing that gets me through the day sometimes, so that mug would get some use.

I’m hoping Eliot gets me one for our anniversary. (Are you reading honey?)

On your old site, I got a cool pic of you (one that is still on the home page) as the icon when I bookmarked the site on my home screen. On the new site, it’s just a bland Liliputian screen shot. Any way to put the pic or new logo on? Not a big deal. A First World problem.

I should clarify that I’m using an iPhone.
Tim Smith
Hey Snyder. The iphone icon should be added now as well as the little favicon up there in the address bar on desktop browsers.

Tim says he’s looking into it. 🙂
