Muppets: The Green Album

LizaLiza

Have you heard about this yet?  I was puttering about getting Asa’s breakfast when I heard the story on NPR.

“The Green Album, out August 23, sticks to songs written specifically for or performed by the Muppets, and culls from a deep catalog of fan favorites. OK Go kicks off the mix appropriately with a trippy, extended version of the Muppet Show theme song, the one that hails “the most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, Muppetational” show on earth. Weezer and Hayley Williams of Paramore trade verses in a wistful version of “Rainbow Connection.” Andrew Bird’s whistling and string arrangements reach well into the heart of “Bein’ Green.” And Rachael Yamagata‘s version of “I’m Going to Go Back There Some Day,” a song I’d long forgotten, brought tears to my eyes.”

I watched the Muppet Show on TV with my  family every Friday night growing up.  We’d all sit on the couch eating dinner on trays (Shake-n-Bake chicken) and laughing.  I own the old shows on VCR tapes and I say a little prayer to the VCR player gods every time I stick one in to the player.  (Which isn’t often enough these days.)  Gonzo is definitely my spirit animal.  😉  (Though I was told once by an ex-boyfriend that I danced like Kermit the Frog.)

So anyway, I know what I’ll be listening to on my run today.  Mahna-Manah!  (Doot-dooo-doo-doot-doot!)

I hope your day is filled with this kind of happy surprise too.

The OK Go video for the Muppet Theme Song has already gone viral (it’s pretty good…) Everyone has their Muppet counterpart; mine is Lew Zealand, though I’m starting to look more like Waldorf up in the balcony.

    Rainbow connection……..I love that song.
I like to think my Muppet counterpart is Fozzie Bear.
And Animal is the best drummer ever!

I love the Andrew Bird version of “Green”. As far as cover albums go that have come out recently, this one is the best. I’m actually partial to Janis and or the the old guys that sit in the balcony as my muppet counterparts.

This Statler and Waldorf one makes me think of the thought process after ultras.
      STATLER: Boo!
      WALDORF: Boooo!
S: That was the worst thing I’ve ever heard!
      W: It was terrible!
      S: Horrendous!
W: Well it wasn’t that bad.
      S: Oh, yeah?
W: Well, there were parts of it I liked!
S: Well, I liked alot of it.
W: Yeah, it was GOOD actually.
      S: It was great!
      W: It was wonderful!
      S: Yeah, bravo!
      W: More!
      S: More!
      W: More!
      S: More!

That’s so funny. Post ultra thinking is exactly like that. Immediately after the race everything is horrible, it was the worst experience ever. Then slowly you forget. Thanks for this!
