Carpe diem and murderous mutes

LizaLiza

Woo Hoo!  It’s 7:35 pm and the boy’s in bed for the night.  Party on the treadmill!!  Thanks so much to you folks who commented or sent e-mails in response to yesterday’s post.  Y’all are awesome.  Heartfelt cyber hug.  (And I haven’t even looked twice at a piece of cobbler today.)

Before we dropped Eliot off at the airport Saturday morning, we swung by the library to get a book for the plane.  I asked him to grab some movies I could watch on the treadmill while he was inside.  Asa and I occupied ourselves at the playground behind the library.

So here are the four videos I found in the back of the car today:

Dead Poet’s Society

Hannah and Her Sisters

Driving Lessons (with Rupert Grint of Harry Potter fame)

and

Shall We Dance

What do you think?  Time for marriage counseling?  Hannah and Her Sisters?!? For the treadmill?  And here’s the blurb on the back of Driving Lessons if you’re not familiar with it — either:

Laura Linney stars as Laura Marshall, an overzealous, evangelical Christian do-gooder who fills her home with down-and-out boarders, including a senile, cross-dressing murderous mute.

I do see it was a winning entry at the 2006 Moscow International Film Festival, so maybe I’m being too harsh.  “Senile, cross-dressing, murderous mute…”

So it looks like I’ll be watching Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, and Jennifer Lopez in Shall We Dance first tonight.  (The kid deciding to commit suicide in Dead Poet’s Society is not what I want to be watching at treadmill mile 16.)  And, really, I’m drawn like a moth to people-learning-to-dance movies — because I have no rhythm myself.  I can’t clap in time to “Wheels on the Bus.”  (Lord knows I’ve tried. Sometimes I start out okay, but I’m always off beat by the time the people on the bus are going up and down.)  A little Julia Stiles, in Save the Last Dance would be better.  (I’m not a Richard Gere fan — for no particular reason.)  Or one of those horrible cheerleading movies.  Bring It On! (Anyone?) Alright, I’m just going to have to lash the computer onto the treadmill with a cam strap and stream some Netflix.  Carpe Diem!

Brrr…It’s cold in here! There must be some Toros in the atmosphere!

Ha! I love Bring it On! (though can’t believe I am admitting that in public!). That is definitely the kind of movie you need for the TM!

Love it! I bring that kind of admission out of people.
But I was thwarted in my Bring It On watching tonight. Netflix only had Bring It On Again (the sequel) available for instant viewing. I do have some standards. But I found the perfect substitute in the last episode of Glee. Absolutely perfect for the TM. Says it all, doesn’t it?

For pete’ sake Liza! I look at your food log and think, not enough calories! Don’t you burn a gazillion calories a day with all your running? I know you are teeny tiny- like 100 lbs right? Plus all the activity with Asa.
Also, what do you use for calories during your ultra races? Is it all GU or some food too?
Answer me these questions and in the meanwhile I will fix a hearty snack for you! : )

Hearty snacks always sound good. And those calories would be whacky low if I’d actually run more than an hour or so for the five days I got out this Spring Break week. (I postponed the 20-miler until tomorrow when Asa’s back in school.) I’ll post my mileage and workout time in the future, so the calorie intake will seem less loopy. I’m 98 pounds — more often than not and five feet zero inches.
I take in 200 calories an hour during races. 1 gel every 30 minutes. Or an electrolyte drink and a gel. I’m experimenting with mixing some protein powder into the gels to get a bit more protein during long training runs.
More info than you wanted? Where’s my snack? 😉

You are certainly able to eat more with running but over time the body gets very efficient and doesn’t burn as much. Shoot, and with your petite frame, you’d probably only need 12-1300/day to maintain weight.
Hannah and Her Sisters? I’d rather watch socks dry on a clothes line. For me to have any interest in remaining on a treadmill for more than 1 minute, Jennifer Connelly would have to be salsa dancing in a bikini in front of me.

Tim, treadmill must be reason number two…. Before you have JC’s husband in the ground, meet me in Brooklyn. I’ll do my best to distract him while you make your move 😉
