I’m starting to think about MdS as a restful vacation with a bit running thrown in. I’m not underestimating the desert...
Unnatural
LizaI was feeling kind of blah today. The massive taper due to my nasty cold is messing with my bliss. I’m looking forward to getting back to high mileage again. (I’m not a racer at heart. Give me a long, hard, unsupported training run any day.) Anyway! I was feeling the effects of low mileage and feeling kind of blue when — out of the blue — I got an e-mail asking me to consider applying for an awesome job. It’s not in the cards right now, but just being reminded that I’ve acquired some useful skills in life (outside cutting PB&J sandwiches into four perfect squares) snapped me out of my funk. The hardest thing about being a (mostly) stay-at-home mom is the ambivalence I sometimes feel about spending all day with my child. My sister says it’d be unnatural for a 38 year-old woman to want to socialize exclusively with a preschooler — which is a very fine point. She’s smart like that.

So what was the job?!

Good luck at your race this weekend. Sometimes getting a cold is a blessing…it really forces a good taper for those of us who have a hard time being compliant with the taper. I can’t imagine any race being harder than doing your long runs on a treadmill…you should definitely kick some butt out there!

Thanks Clea! I’m getting excited.

I know what you mean. As a (mostly) stay at home step-dad it’s sometimes hard to figure out just what it means that a 4 year old is my best friend. but then i get out for a run later in the day and everything seems perfect. say hello if you see you out in Marin this weekend. good luck.

Geoff,
If you aren’t already on a plane heading home when I finish, I will definitely say hi. Lots of people in San Antonio rooting for you this weekend. Best wishes.

And thanks for the nice comment.
