Steroid shots for plantar fasciitis

LizaLiza

I’ve decided I’m going to give steroid shots a try for my PF.  It’s been almost six months that I’ve been dealing with it and my mental health can’t stand to have another run cut short by foot pain.  I am grumpy.  And impatient.  I’m doing all the stretching and icing that a mother can reasonably expected to do — and I’ll continue to stretch my brains out, but I need a bit of relief, so I can do a bit of running — and be a bit less crazy.  For Eliot’s sake.  It certainly sounds like shots are a short term solution — most effective for about three months  — but three months would just about do.  And then I promise I would be happy to take a huge break.  Really.  Maybe I’ll try my hand at Jai Alai after that — or macrame.   Headed to the pool now to bleed the boy of energy.  It’s still in the 90s here in San Antonio.  Come visit.

Oh, and if anyone’s had experience with steroid shots for PF, I’d be thankful to hear about it.

No experience with PF, but I have had desperation-induced cortisone shots for my knee. It wasn’t a permanent fix, but it did give me–and my family–12ish weeks of sanity. I also found it was easier to do some of the rehab stretching and treatment when the pain was dulled by cortisone. 😉 Good luck!

Thanks for the hope Lauren. We’ll see what happens when I go back next week. Some sanity would be good for the family! Hope we can run together sometime soon!

    Hey Liza,
When you can take it easy. Try running minimalist as I suggested before. That does not mean you need to go barefoot or run in VFF’S. Try running in shoes with much thinner soles. Even take out the soles. The shoe needs to be flexible. Concentrate on your running form. Ball mid heel Ball mid heel. This will help to strengthen your foot. The strengthening of the foot will help to lesson or even eliminate the PF.
